A man has appeared in court accused of kidnapping and assaulting a Hamilton woman who died in Ngaruawahia last week.
Harry Kenny, 36, of Hamilton, was remanded in custody without plea after appearing in Hamilton District Court yesterday.
He was charged with injuring Pauline Sharryn Witeri with intent,
assault, and unlawfully detaining her.
Ms Witeri, 50, was found dead at a friend's home in Ngaruawahia last Thursday.
A post mortem concluded Ms Witeri died from natural causes. Police said the charges against Kenny were unrelated.
He returns to court today for a bail hearing. A pre-depositions date has been set down for July 10.
