Luckiest lotto shops revealed

You might want to rethink where you buy your Lotto ticket this weekend - 25 years of wins have revealed the luckiest spots.

Masterton New World has had 11 first division Lotto, Strike and Powerball winners, taking home a total of $12.1 million.

Masterton New World kiosk manager Sarah McLachlan said she was not sure how much luck had to do with it.

"We have an awful lot of regular customers coming in, week in and week out. Trish, who has been our Lotto manager since we got our Lotto licence, they know she knows what they want."

Mrs LcLachlan said while quite a few people came in with the same numbers each week, other customers used systems covering a range of numbers and variables.

The store was followed by Kuripuni Take Note Lotto & Post Shop, which has had eight first division Lotto, Strike and Powerball winners haul in $7.5 million.

The tables do not include Big Wednesday winners - Kuripuni Take Note Lotto & Post Shop sold a $36 million Big Wednesday ticket in 2009.

Third place was Martinborough's Pain & Kershaw, bringing in $4.5 million for seven first division winners.

Greytown Lotto & Post Shop has also had seven first division winners, with winnings of $2.8 million, and Featherston Take Note Lotto & Post Shop has had six with $1.7 million.

Lotto is celebrating 25 years this year, and has given away over $7 billion to 300 winners.

Wairarapa's first division wins since 1987:

Masterton: 24 winners, $22.4 million

Carterton: 3 winners, $1.75 million

South Wairarapa: 20 winners, $9.01 million

Tararua: 12 winners, $21.3 million
