Logging truck crash blocks lanes on Dunedin’s Southern Motorway but now cleared

A section of Dunedin’s Southern Motorway blocked by a logging truck crash this afternoon has now been cleared.

Police said emergency services responded to an incident with a logging truck and a car.

The crash, reported about 3.30pm, happened between the Kaikorai Valley Rd turnoff and the Caversham Valley Rd on-ramp.

Hato Hone St John said it was notified of the crash at 3.24pm and responded with two ambulances and one rapid response vehicle.

Three people were assessed at the scene and taken to Dunedin Hospital. One was in a moderate condition, and two were described as in minor conditions.

Motorists were advised to expect delays while the scene was cleared, which police said could take “some time”.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) confirmed State Highway 1 at the Kaikorai Valley Rd northbound on-ramp and the Concord southbound off-ramp was closed, with drivers advised to follow the directions of emergency services on-site.

The road since has reopened to all traffic.
