Light-fingered thieves in Levin

The thefts of hundreds of solar lights from Horowhenua and Kapiti gardens are a mystery.

About 100 lights have been stolen from Levin, Foxton and Foxton Beach gardens and more in Paraparaumu and Waikanae.

Sergeant Martin Bull of Foxton said it had been suggested that drug-growers might be using them to power electric fences to deter possums.

But electrical experts said the lights would not have enough power.

The thefts follow a rash of garden-gnome disappearances in Levin this month.
