WELLINGTON - Writer Alan Duff says he will keep the promise he made that he would leave New Zealand if the Alliance became part of the Government.
But he admits that he was planning to move to Sydney regardless of the election result, and says he won't be abandoning New Zealandcompletely.
Duff made his vow in August, and yesterday was standing by it.
"I will not live under the left wing. I despise the left wing. I hate interference. I believe in less Government, less tax ... I do not want people interfering in my life."
He plans to set up his own film company in Sydney.
But he says the election result means he will be leaving with a "heavy heart."
Duff says he is not anti-Labour - he voted for Labour candidate Rick Barker in his electorate - but he hates the Alliance's "envy factor."
The new Government will be no good for Maori, he says. Instead, it will "ghetto-ise them and patronise them."
"I'm sick of the whole Maori thing anyway," Duff says.
"I am convinced Jim Anderton is not going to help the people he says. He is going to put them further behind with the handouts."
Hawkes Bay-based Duff says he will split his time between Australia and New Zealand. He does not know when he will leave, but it will be as soon as possible.
The outspoken author recently built a luxury house in upmarket Havelock North, near Hastings, but says he is sick of New Zealand's "politically correct nonsense."
