Two small quakes struck just northwest of Gisborne last night.
The first struck at 10.29pm, 15km southwest of Matawai at a depth of 6km.
The magnitude 3.4 quake had a Mercalli intensity of 5, GeoNet said.
The second, magnitude 3 quake struck just three minutes later in the same location
at a depth of 9km.
