Large rural burn-off threatens house in Maungatapere, Northland

An uncontrolled burn-off is threatening a house in Northland.

The Fire Service were called at 5.43pm to the blaze on Kara Rd. A spokesman said four crews had responded, but he didn't know if any properties were being evacuated.

He said the fire had started in a logging skip full of scrap wood. As a result it was "quite deep seated".

"It's quite set in within the area.

"It's quite large.

"We're coming at it from a few sides."
