A large vegetation fire which engulfed 10,000 square metres of scrub, in the central North Island, has been contained by fire services.
A fire service spokesman said that the fire has been contained and fire services have since left the scene.
The blaze, which occurred in Mihi, a remote area 35km from Taupo, came within 30m of nearby houses.
A nearby pine plantation was also threatened by the flames.

Five fire applicances responded to the blaze, including two water tankers.
Rural fire services will continue to monitor the situation.
