Kitten found with stab wounds in head

The stabbing of a six-week-old kitten has disgusted animal welfare staff. The ginger male kitten with three stab wounds to its head was found outside a house in Tikipunga, Whangarei.

It was the second act of severe animal cruelty in the suburb in two months. Last month, a cat survived an attack in which it was doused in accelerant and set alight.

Animal welfare inspector Ben Knowles says the kitten does not have any defensive wounds so it was probably held tightly and stabbed from behind.
