The lawyer who represented internet mogul Kim Dotcom has just been appointed a judge of the High Court.
Attorney General Chris Finlayson announced the appointment of Auckland QC Paul Davison yesterday.
It comes after a notable 40-year career in law that includes appearing before Royal Commissions of Inquiry into theMt Erebus disaster and the prosecution of Arthur Alan Thomas.
He also acted for a number of New Zealand Vietnam War veterans in a class action seeking damages for the effects of exposure to Agent Orange.
Justice Davison also has an extensive criminal defence practice and was engaged by the Crown to assist in a number of high profile murder trials.
Mr Dotcom last night tweeted his congratulations to his former lawyer saying he was on his path to Chief Justice of New Zealand, a position held by his late father Sir Ron Davison.
