A veteran volunteer firefighter has been jailed after he crept naked into the bed of a sleeping woman.
Mark Coldicutt, 42, who served 25 years with Hastings Volunteer Fire Brigade, was found guilty of indecent assault and burglary last month and was sentenced in Hastings District Court on Friday.
Coldicutt, who works in the transport industry, said he had known the woman for more than 10 years, and had a drunken one-night sexual encounter two years prior to the incident, the Hawke's Bay Today reported.
On New Year's Eve last year he spotted her at a Hastings bar then walked to her home about 4am and entered her house through an unlocked door.
He then slipped into her bed, naked, and tried to lift her clothing.
Judge Geoff Rea sentenced him to two years and eight months in prison.
