Our family would support any sensible moves to reduce the noise and speed of powerboats in the inner harbour. If the Te Atatu Boating Club vice-commodore is concerned about power boaties wallowing in the wake of a ferry, I hope his concern will extend to educating power boat owners about passing fishing boats, canoeist and other small boat owners at a reasonable speed. We do not enjoy being buffeted around by power boats roaring about the harbour - whether they are travelling at 10 knots or 20.

As a yacht designer, I can assure you that most of the power boats that are complained about, will have a much larger wave created at 10 knots than at 20 knots. This bylaw makes no sense. You would be better to have a fast traffic lane in the harbour, on the commercial wharf side and keep powercraft in this lane.
