A London council has apologised after a woman was refused the loan of a pair of scissors in a library because she
"might stab a member of staff". Lorna Watts, 26, told the BBC: "I asked why I couldn't borrow a pair of scissors and she said, 'They are sharp, you might stab me'." She added: "It's absurd - there are plenty of heavy books I could have hit her with if I wanted to."

Mark writes: "I was following a bus today that has an ad on the back about the dangers of doing two things at once - part of the campaign against using a cellphone while driving. It has two separate lines of copy mixed up to demonstrate how hard it is to read two things at the same time - but it's on the BACK OF A BUS! I almost had an accident trying to read the ad!"

A reader from Westmere was intrigued to see a leg of export lamb in his supermarket chiller, emblazoned with a yellow "Special" sticker. The price was down from $40.17 to $39.76 - which is 41 cents - or 1 per cent. Assuming this was 10 per cent keyed in wrongly, he inquired and was told that the lamb legs arrived at the supermarket already labelled. The staff member told him in a low voice that some lines are discounted by just 1 cent.

A new internet game encourages players to throw food at a stick-thin Victoria Beckham. Nosh for Posh involves hurling burgers, fruit, vegetables and sushi at a moving waif-like target modelled on the former Spice Girl. Gamers are greeted with a picture of David Beckham's wife pleading: "Help me!!! I need to put on weight!" The game's creator, Nicolas Jacquart, said: "We wanted to poke fun at Victoria Beckham's latest Size Zero look ... She looks as if she needs to put on weight." (Source: ananova.com)

Dutch police proudly announced they had destroyed an illegal marijuana farm, tearing up 47,000 plants they claimed had a street value of €4.4 million ($9 million). They later found out they had destroyed a perfectly legal operation of the University of Wageningen. University officials said they were trying to develop new hemp fibres for textiles and paper and the plants had an extremely low THC content, making them unfit for drug use. (Source: reason.com)
