A person has been flown to hospital in a serious condition after an early morning crash in the Bay of Plenty.
Another person suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to hospital.
Police say two cars collided on Hewletts Rd, Mt Maunganui, around 4am.
The road was closed
for about one hour while the crash was cleared.
Police are now investigating.
The holiday road toll stands at 11, just one short of last year's total. The official period ends on January 4.
