Road closures
The Tristram Ave offramp and onramp southbound on the Northern Motorway will be closed tomorrow from 9pm to 5am for asphalt work.
The offramp from Grafton Rd to the Northwestern Motorway will be closed between 8pm and 5am tonight, tomorrow night and Friday night.
Motorists are asked
to follow the signposted detours.
Holiday fun
There is a school holiday extravaganza at Totara Park in Manukau City from 10am to 2pm today. Phone your local Manukau City Council leisure centre for details.
Swimming chance
School holidays have another week to run, and there's still lots to do. If you can't get to the beach, the following school pools are open: Gladstone Primary, Carrington Rd, Mt Albert, noon to 6pm until Saturday; Kowhai Intermediate, Sandringham Rd, Kingsland, noon to 6pm until Tuesday; Te Huruhi Primary, Donald Bruce Rd, Waiheke Island, 10am to 6pm until March 1. Or you could try the Tepid Baths in Customs St West in the city or your local public swimming pool.
Picnic time
Pack up the kids and the sandwiches and try a picnic in the park at Sunnynook Park on Sunnynook Rd from 11am today. Free family fun begins at 4pm in the reserve in Bayside Drive, Browns Bay, and at 5pm in Lindisfarne Reserve on the corner of Lake Rd and Tonar St in Northcote.
Children's theatre
Theatre Frontier perform Big Bush, Billy Tea and Biodiversity at the Regional Botanic Gardens, Hill Rd, Manurewa, at 11am and 2pm today, tomorrow and Friday, and at 11am and 3pm on Saturday and Sunday. The show is suitable for children aged 4 to 12, each show lasts half an hour and admission is free. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Phone 267-1457 ext 201 for details.
Jewellery skills
The Corban Estate Arts Centre in Great North Rd, Henderson has classes tomorrow in jewellery making for the 7 to 14-year-olds. It also hosts drama classes for children of all ages, starting today and running until Tuesday. Phone 838-4455 for details.
Brewery tour
Try the Lion Beer experience, with tours of the brewery daily at 9.30am, 12.15pm and 3pm. The company is located at 380 Khyber Pass Rd, Newmarket, and bookings are recommended. Ph 358-8366.
Funding support
Applications are invited for Auckland City's Community Group Assistance Funding. The grants are split into two types: one for projects that benefit Auckland City residents from a citywide perspective, and one for helping community organisations with their principal activity. Applications close on March 3. Groups can get more information, including application forms, from the Auckland City website or by phoning 379-2020.
Local projects
Funding is also available from the Manukau City Council for projects arranged by community groups and organisations that will benefit their community. Applications close on January 31.
