Blood donations needed
Stocks of all blood groups are needed. The Greater Auckland blood donor centres are open from today to Friday this week at Newmarket (71 Great South Rd), North Shore (120 Shakespeare Rd, Milford) and Manukau (AMI Building, Manukau City).

Nikon models recalled
T.A.Macalister Ltd is voluntarily recalling some models of the Nikon Coolpix 2000 digital camera, as an occasional fault in the battery chamber can cause the camera casing to overheat. The cameras affected have serial numbers within the following ranges: 2010001-2042816, 2510001-2543248, 3010001-3060980, 3510001-3561916, 4010001-4063334, 4510001-4555696, 5010001-5014664, 5510001-5512592. These cameras were available in New Zealand between June 18 and August 8 this year. For more information and replacement options phone 0800 92 00 23 during business hours.
North Shore civic awards
There's still time to nominate your unsung heroes for this year's North Shore City Civic Awards. The awards recognise the work of volunteers in the city, and are broken down into five categories - community, city-wide, youth, community organisations and business. Nomination forms are available from the council's libraries, area offices, head office, visitor information and leisure centres or by ringing 486-8600. More information is available on the council website and nominations close on Sept 16.
Parents of deaf children meet
Auckland Parents of Deaf Children Inc. is a voluntary support society which meets monthly for coffee, outings and information evenings. For more information phone 836-8601.
Fassbinder retrospective
The Rainer Werner Fassbinder retrospective continues with The Merchant of Four Seasons, screening at the Rialto Cinema in Newmarket at 6.30pm. This portrait of a world-weary fruit peddler chronicles his breakdown after his family rejects him and his wife is unfaithful.
Keeping police station open
The Glenfield Community Board is hosting a public meeting to rally support and plan ways to arrest the proposed closure of Glenfield's police station.
