Takapuna police want to track down a red 1981 V8 Holden Kingswood ute they say could have been stolen by a ring of car thieves.
North Shore police think the professional way this vehicle was taken points to an organised group stealing powerful vehicles in the Auckland area.
The ute, registration US5781,
was stolen from Devonport about 5.30 am last Friday. It has mag wheels, an extra-large towball and a specially manufactured exhaust system.
A man was seen shortly afterwards buying fuel for the ute at a North Shore petrol station, and was caught on videotape.
He is described as Caucasian, in his mid to late thirties, and with receding hair.
He was wearing dark trousers, a white checked shirt with wide dark stripes, and black shoes.
If you think you know who the man might be, or where the ute is, ring Sam Ruiterman at Takapuna police station, on 488-6200.
