The alleged gunman who took three hostages and effectively closed down part of a busy industrial suburb in Auckland last week will have further psychiatric testing before he appears in court for a third time.
Bruno Andrea Perillo, 35, was arrested last Tuesday after an armed standoff when
police closed several blocks in the industrial area of New Lynn.
Perillo appeared in Auckland District Court today where an order preventing publication of his name was lifted.
Judge Nicola Mathers said the public's right to know outweighed his right to privacy.
He was originally charged with three counts of kidnapping, and one each of reckless driving, failing to stop and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.
In court today he faced more driving charges and one charge of possessing an air gun.
He did not plead to any of the charges and was remanded in custody until August 1 for further psychiatric assessment.
He wore blue overalls for his brief appearance when he was flanked by security guards.
The hostage drama ended after more than three hours when police threw stun grenades into a building where Perillo allegedly had a gun and held the hostages.
No one was hurt.
