CHRISTCHURCH - An HIV-positive Christchurch man who told police he had had had 4000 sexual partners in the past five years has pleaded guilty in the Christchurch District Court to having unprotected sex.
Christopher Ian Truscott, aged 31, a former male prostitute, admitted a representative charge of criminal nuisance for failing
to disclose his HIV status to four sexual partners in January and February this year. Prosecutor Phil Shamy said Truscott had been working as a male prostitute for about 10 years in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
In May 1991, he was diagnosed as being HIV-positive.
"There seems to have been significant intervention on behalf of various health agencies around the country.
"However, Truscott did not modify or change his behaviour, and continued to have unprotected sexual contact with gay and bisexual men," he said.
Judge Murray Abbott convicted Truscott on the charge and remanded him on bail for sentencing next month.
The remand does not affect the isolation order imposed by Canterbury Medical Officer of Health Mel Brieseman, under which Truscott and another man have been detained since May.
