Hire World Masterton closes down

Hire World Masterton has closed down after being bought out by competitors.

The hire company, on the corner of Queen and Russell streets, was bought by Masterton competitors Hire Shop and Stihl Shop in December last year.

Most of the staff were transferred to Hire Shop after the merger, although one retired and two were made redundant.

The store hired commercial and home-handyman products, and stock was being auctioned off today at 10am from the store premises.

Director of Stihl Shop and Hire Shop Jeremy Sharp, said that there wasn't room for two hiring businesses, especially under the one roof.

"We merged the two on December 23, and we've been running it as Hire Shop since," he said.

Interest in the auction was high yesterday; by 3pm, there had already been more than 100 registered bidders.
