For breakfast, Australasia's Most Powerful Man downs a one-litre protein shake appetiser before tucking into a main course of up to 10 scrambled eggs with four pieces of wholemeal toast.
Dinner for the 2015 titleholder, Mathew Ragg, of Papatoetoe in South Auckland, may consist of 450g of steamed chicken, one to two cups of rice, and broccoli. Takeaways, typically some crispy chicken and some icecream, keep his energy levels up during the day.
"I try to eat 4000 to 5000 calories in total," said Ragg.
That is 45 to 80 per cent more than the median energy intake of New Zealand men but is what the sportsman judges he needs to muscle his way through his Herculean feats.
Ragg, a McDonald's worker in his day job, snatched the transtasman title from Australian Ben Simpson in the heaviest bodyweight category, over 105kg, in the competition held at Webbs Creek, north of Sydney, this month.
His achievement entitles him to compete in a world championship competition to be held in the American state of Ohio next March.
Ragg is 23, weighs 140kg and is 1.88m tall. During his teens, he was a sprinter, until he injured a shin, after which he began spending more time at the gym. In 2013, his brother Sam introduced him to strongman events and he flourished.
He was crowned New Zealand's Strongest Man in a competition at Auckland's Easter Show which involved events such as pulling a 14-tonne truck, carrying a 160kg anvil and flipping a 300kg tyre.
