Heidi Julie Berg, 36, was teaching an English-language class on the third floor of the CTV building when the earthquake struck.

Police confirmed her death this week.

Her friend Jen Wilson has known Heidi since their school days at Belfast Primary and described her as a caring woman.

She said Heidi was in Japan when the September earthquake struck and phoned family and friends straight away to make sure everyone was safe.

But this quake has been different.

"I didn't hear anything and I knew straight away that there was no hope," Ms Wilson said.

She said Heidi loved looking after her nieces and nephews and "would do anything for anybody".

"She was just amazing. She helped me and my husband out and never expected anything in return," Ms Wilson said.
