As a Central Hawkes Bay sheep and cattle farm sold at auction for $3.61 million, an Auckland couple picked up what could well be the bay's cheapest house - a Wairoa home for $20,000.
The nearly 60-year-old, three-bedroom house had been on the market for some time. It was built ofmainly native timbers and was in reasonable condition inside, said vendor spokesman Kingi Hamlin.
The new owners planned to move in soon.
The 1096ha Waipuna Station, 45km south of Havelock North, attracted seven bidders.
Wrightson spokesman Tiki Marra said it had a 2003 valuation of $2.8 million.
