Green light for faster bus trips

Auckland traffic lights will stay green for buses from next month.

A system of global positioning units and computers will ensure lights stay green for 737 buses as they approach 174 intersections. The aim is to shorten public transport travel times.

The positioning system will be linked to electronic boards at 204 bus-stops to tell passengers when the next bus will arrive and the 24 Link buses will have information screens on board to tell passengers the name of the next bus stop.
