Glen Eden park assault: Teen faces aggravated robbery charge

A teenager will appear in court after a person was allegedly assaulted and robbed at knifepoint in an Auckland park.

Police were called to a report of someone being assaulted and threatened with a knife at Ceramco Park, Glen Eden, about 1.45pm on Tuesday, Detective Senior Sergeant Ryan Bunting said.

“The two alleged offenders have then taken the victim’s personal items before fleeing in a vehicle”, said Bunting, of Waitematā CIB.

Police went to a Glen Eden property with a search warrant yesterday. They found and arrested an 18-year-old man.

“Officers have also located a pistol, ammunition and cannabis at the address.”

The victim’s backpack and shoes were recovered and returned, Bunting said.

“This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim, and we’re pleased to put someone before the court.

“Police take this sort of offending very seriously and will continue to hold offenders to account.”

The man was due to appear in Waitākere District Court today, charged with aggravated robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of cannabis.

Police did not rule out further arrests or charges.
