A Gladstone property built by Masterton builders D.R. Borman has won the coveted supreme award at the Wairarapa Registered Master Builders House of the Year awards. At an awards ceremony at Brackenridge in Martinborough on Friday night, the house, owned by Jenny and Andrew Stokes, was awarded a gold medal forexcellence in the new homes $650,000 to $1 million category, and then went on to be named the supreme award winner on the night. The client's brief to the architect was for a home with space and modern comforts to accommodate a family. The home is constructed from plastered concrete masonry and Hokitika schist for entrance pillars. There are three main structures which give several points for outdoor entertainment. Double glazing and an underfloor heating system provided the main heating source as well as several vented skylights for continuity of light to the central hallway, which runs the length of the home. Strong use of timber has been made in the house, from rimu skirting and architraves and demolition timber ledge and brace doors. Holmes Construction Group Ltd of Greytown won a bronze award in the commercial tourism and leisure project for the Greytown Town Hall restoration. Masterton firm Moss Brothers Residential Wellington Wairarapa Ltd won two bronze awards in the sustainable home category, a silver and category winners in the $450,000 to $650,000 home category and a silver in the $650,000 to $1million home category. They also won the Pink Batts Ultra Energy Efficiency award. D.R. Borman also won silver in the $450,000 to $650,000 home category as well as picking up the Carrolls Joinery Heart of the Home Kitchen Award and the Future-Proof Building Award. Fineline Construction won a silver award in the Nulook Builders Own Home category, while also winning the Mico Bathrooms Excellence Award and the Gib Living Solutions Award.
