Give A Little fundraiser set up for 11-year-old West Auckland boy abducted and sexually assaulted

A Give A Little fundraiser has been started for the family of an 11-year-old West Auckland boy abducted and sexually assaulted during an horrific four-hour ordeal.

The schoolboy had just got off a train at the Ranui Station shortly before 4pm on Thursday when he was approached by a stranger in a van as he walked towards Ranui Station Rd.

The man asked him for directions before the boy was pulled into the vehicle and taken to an unknown location.

The man dropped him back in Ranui about 8pm. The only description police have been able to ascertain from the boy is he was a "man in a grey van".

The Give A Little was launched by a group called "KiwisUnite" yesterday and has raised more than $1200.

The group, which describes itself as "local women who believe community comes together to take positive action when something horrendous happens", hopes at least $5000 can be raised for the family.

The page says the family "isn't very well off". The donations will be gifted as a combination of cash, petrol and grocery vouchers.

"Money isn't going to change that this horrific event has occurred, but when something like this happens, it helps to not have to worry about anything else," the page says.

Any additional funds will be placed in a trust to support the boy's future rehabilitation which is not covered by ACC, donated to a charity of the family's choice, or a combination of these options.

Police yesterday said they had received more than 40 tips from the public about the abduction and assault - 15 of them to the anonymous Crimestoppers tip line.

Detective Senior Sergeant Jason McIntosh said the investigation was fully resourced and progressing with support from detectives, child protection teams, and detectives from the child protection team register.

Specialist interviewers will speak to the boy again when it's deemed appropriate.

Police have asked for the public's help to catch the abductor.

"In particular, we're asking if anyone saw the boy, the van and anyone acting suspiciously in the vicinity of Metcalf Rd and Swanson Rd at about 4.15pm," McIntosh said.

"We are also appealing for anyone with private CCTV or smart phone footage from Thursday afternoon to contact police."

There would be a police presence in the area before and after school today.
