Girl escaped when rapist fell asleep, say police

A 15-year-old girl allegedly abducted and raped in a 2 1/2-hour ordeal managed to escape only when her attacker fell asleep, police said.

Police want to hear from anyone who saw the pair leave a dance at Turangi's old rugby league club rooms or the man's white two-door Toyota car around 1:30 am on Sunday.

A 21-year-old man appeared in the Taupo District Court yesterday on charges including rape and abduction.
