BP, Shell and Mobil have followed Caltex and raised their fuel prices by 6c a litre.
Caltex spokeswoman Sharon Buckland said the price for refined fuel in Singapore went up by $10 a barrel overnight.
"That's important to us, more important to us than the American spike because
Singapore is what we buy," Ms Buckland said.
She said the slowly dropping dollar was also not protecting the company as fuel was sold in American dollars.
"Sometimes we can get some protection with the dollar but at the moment we're not. A six cent rise a litre against a $10 rise is restrained and quite modest," Ms Buckland said.
Caltex are now charging $2.06.9 a litre for 91 and $2.11.9 for 95 octane.
Diesel is up to $1.79.9 a litre.
Mobil has followed Caltex's lead, raising the price of petrol and diesel by six cents, Radio New Zealand has reported.
Prices at the pump are now 206.9 cents for 91 octane while 95 is 2.11 cents and diesel 179.9.
Mobil has not yet returned phone calls from nzherald.co.nz.
Diana Stretch from BP said the company had not increased prices but would also be reviewing later this afternoon.
Readers of nzherald.co.nz have reported finding a Gull and a Mobil station in the Oteha Valley Rd area of Albany selling 91 at 199.9 cents.
Another reader also reported the low price on offer at a Mobil station at Royal Heights in West Auckland.
A reader who works at a BP station in Bay of Plenty said people were feeling the pinch. He said staff were seeing more "drive offs".
Reader Ben Ross reported large variables in price. He said while 91 octane in Whakatane was 199.9 cents, in Opotiki it was 202.9 and 53kms from Opotiki 219.9 cents.
