Wairarapa's tourist attractions will open their doors free next month to help encourage locals along.
More than 30 tourism businesses will participate in the Destination Wairarapa initiative "Be Our Guest", which aims to inform local people about attractions in the region.
Destination Wairarapa's member services manager Helen Tickner said theinitiative, being held for the third time, was a nice way to say thanks to those people who live in the region and actively support local tourist attractions.
"It is also a great opportunity for locals not so familiar with the diverse range of activities and attractions that are on offer in our region, to have a fun day out and experience them first hand," she said.
Featherston Motels & Campground owner Colin Olds said the programme was a perfect way for tourism businesses to showcase their offerings to locals. He hopes those who check out some of the sites will be able to mention the attractions when visitors are looking to explore Wairarapa.
Participating attractions include the Wool Shed in Masterton, Cobblestones Early Settlers Museum in Greytown, and Martinborough Manor Farm Tours.
Fell The Vineyard Cafe at Margrain Vineyard Martinborough will have a special coffee-and-muffin offer, Olivo will host a free tree to table tour at 10am, the Tui HQ Cafe will provide a free beer or soft drink with every meal and the Featherston Motels & Campground will open a selection of rooms for people to view as well as hold a sausage sizzle from noon.
The attractions will be open for free for locals between 10am and 4pm on Sunday, November 4.
