Foxton Beach baby death: Police launch homicide investigation

A 6-month-old baby found with critical injuries at a Foxton Beach house has died.

A homicide investigation is now underway, police said on Saturday evening.

The infant was discovered critically hurt at a property on Seabury Avenue last Sunday.

In a statement released this evening, Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Deegan said:

“A number of people have already been spoken with and we continue to liaise with medical experts.”

The child was airlifited to Starship Children’s Hospital in Auckland for treatment.

Police have not said when the baby died.

“A homicide investigation has now commenced as police continue to work to establish when and how the fatal injuries likely occurred.”

Horowhenua Mayor Bernie Wanden described the news as “very sad and tragic“.
