Fourteen people had to be rescued from a lift at an Auckland university after it became stuck this evening.

Fire and Emergency northern shift communications manager Murray Bannister said crew were called to Auckland University of Technology's student apartments on Mount St at 6pm.

Fourteen people were stuck in the lift between the ground floor and level one, he said.

It took 20 minutes to release them but nobody was injured.

"They were fine and dandy," he said.

Police said they hadn't been notified of the incident.
