Five injured after boats crash on Otago lake

Five people - including three children - were injured after two boats collided on an Otago lake this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Lake Middleton, next to Lake Ohau, after the crash about 2.18pm.

Five people were taken to Timaru Hospital, three by ambulance and two by rescue helicopter, with moderate to serious injuries.

A girl in her early teens suffered an injured knee, while a boy in his mid-teens suffered head and possible back injuries.

The youngest child, a boy under five, suffered head injuries.

A woman in her 40s suffered a suspected broken arm, while a man in his 60s suffered a suspected broken leg.

Police were investigating.
