A vegetarian punk rocker forced to work as a butcher and the true story of two people who fought McDonalds and won are two of the stories featured in New Zealand's first Vegetarian Film Festival.
The one-day festival, happening this Sunday in Christchurch and Auckland, has been tied in with World Vegetarian Day.
Spokesman Aaron Koolen said the celebration was a good opportunity to have a look at how vegetarianism was represented in film.
The issues and characters presented in the films showed a variety of vegetarian lives and experiences, Mr Koolen said.
Films will be screened in two sessions at the Academy Cinema in Auckland and Southern Ballet Theatre in Christchurch.
Session one will show: USA short film Remembering Bob, about a farm boy's affection for a pig; Australian claymation short film Harvey Krumpet; and McLibel, the true story of a postman and gardener who humiliated McDonalds.
Session two will show: New Zealand short film A Road Less Travelled; Jill's Film, about the life and tragic death of an animal rights activist; and Shooting Vegetarians, the story of a vegetarian punk rocker who is forced to work in his father's butchery.
