A series of small fires have broken out on a grass median on Auckland’s Southern Motorway this morning, sending smoke billowing into the air between Ramarama and Bombay.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said there were fires on the grass median.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said emergency services were dealing with the multiple fires and motorists should expect delays.

Crews were on their way, he said, so there was little information to pass on at this stage.
