A financial director who had 450 employees reporting to him in a multinational company with an annual turnover of about $1.3 billion stole $1.9 million from the company.
In the Auckland District Court yesterday Shaun Francis Barratt, 36, of Avondale, was sentenced to 2 1/2 years' imprisonment.
The court heard that when
he was 28 Barratt put years of a dysfunctional family upbringing behind him to be singled out as a potential senior executive by the German firm Bosch.
But his progress had been achieved without Barratt disclosing convictions for dishonesty when he was a young man.
Judge Simon Lockhart, QC, said Barratt misled the company when he said he was a professionally qualified accountant.
Barratt pleaded guilty and returned the $1.9 million.
