Police have named a man who drowned while boogie-boarding at Dunedin's St Clair beach yesterday. He was Colin Mark Wells, 40, a Dunedin university lecturer.
Surf lifesavers and ambulance staff were unable to resuscitate Mr Wells after he got into trouble in the water while boarding with his 14-year-old son about
8.30pm.
A post-mortem was likely to be carried out tomorrow.
His death was the eighth presumed drowning this holiday season.
John Graham Ginders, 23, died while swimming in Lake Pupuke, on Auckland's North Shore on Sunday.
Wanganui man Terry Eruera, 30, disappeared in Whanganui River on Boxing Day after getting into trouble.
The search for his body is continuing.
Iosa Wayne Upu Sa, 19, is presumed drowned after he jumped off a cliff at Lawyer's Head near Dunedin on December 23 following the knifepoint robbery of an elderly woman.
