After the hectic bustle leading up to Christmas, there's all the more reason to take it easy today.

The Mental Health Foundation estimates 29 per cent of New Zealanders feel added financial and social stresses during the festive season. This year, that percentage is likely to be higher.
If you are one of them, try taking a walk with family or friends to somewhere uplifting such as a park or local festive lights. Giving is a therapeutic act; try regifting something you don't need or, best of all, give someone who loves you some more time. Stop and enjoy something simple such as pōhutukawa blooms or listen to the sound of the sea. Make a New Year resolution that will improve yourself, such as learning something new.
If you are feeling crowded by the people around you, get outside and find some space for yourself, even for a short while.
If you are joining the throngs for the Boxing Day sales, make sure you set aside some time to regather some calm. Do not spend what you cannot afford to, there will be more sales.
Yes, there have been harder challenges for humanity but we are in unprecedented and unpredictable times. Give yourself a congratulatory hug today for getting through.
You great New Zealander.
