Driver arrested after dangerous journey across Auckland

A driver is facing multiple charges after being tracked across Auckland while allegedly driving at dangerous speeds and weaving dangerously through traffic.

About 10pm last night, the driver of a Lexus was signalled to stop on State Highway 20, but failed to do so and is allegedly to have sped off.

The driver was described as travelling “at excessive speed while also weaving through traffic in a dangerous manner”.

Police said the car travelled south to Manukau, then turned back north on State Highway 1.

The car was spiked in Grafton, but continued over the Harbour Bridge and took the Northcote exit.

It then pulled into a driveway, and the four occupants were arrested.

Auckland motorways manager Senior Sergeant Scott Cunningham said the vehicle was not pursued, and the Police Air Support Unit was called in to assist.

Police confirmed that the car was not stolen, but there was an arrest warrant for the driver.

A 23-year-old man is due to appear in Auckland District Court on August 29, charged with failing to stop, reckless driving and driving while disqualified.
