Donald Trump mentioned New Zealand and Australia in a tweet attacking The New York Times and said he was "always available" to their leaders.
The mention came in a series of early morning tweets attacking The New York Times for suggesting his transition team was having problems and that worldleaders were having trouble getting in touch with him.
He said the Times was totally wrong and he had spoken to many leaders.
"I have recieved [sic] and taken calls from many foreign leaders despite what the failing @nytimes said. Russia, U.K., China, Saudi Arabia, Japan" he tweeted at 1.17 am.
A few moment later, at 12.27 am he tweeted: "Australia, New Zealand and more. I am always available to them. @nytimes is just upset that they looked like fool in their coverage of me."
Prime Minister John Key spoke with the United States president elect yesterday morning, after initially missing Trump's call on Monday.
The pair talked about the Kaikoura earthquake, trade and the bilateral relationship. Trump also asked key to pass on his regards to New Zealand golfing legend Sir Bob Charles.
