Roxburgh crash: Truck rolls on Grovers Hill track, one person killed

A person has died after a truck rolled on a walking track in a small Central Otago town, prompting a major emergency response.

Police said they were notified about 3.15pm of a truck that had rolled on Grovers Hill walking track off Teviot St, Roxburgh.

They have now confirmed one person died at the scene.

Police said the Serious Crash Unit has been informed and the walking track would be closed while a scene examination was underway.

Inquiries into the circumstances are ongoing, and police have advised motorists to continue to avoid the area.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand told the Herald three fire engines and several support vehicles are in attendance.

The spokesperson said that after the initial report, they understood a person was trapped.
