Disqualified driver killed in Northland crash

A woman is dead after her car failed to take a moderate bend and crashed into a ditch near Kaitaia in Northland last night.

Police said Jacqueline Lillian Clarke, 44, from Ahipara, was a disqualified driver and alcohol and speed were believed to be factors in the crash.

She was the only occupant in the car when it failed to take the bend and crashed into a drain in Okahu Road, about 3km from Kaitaia soon after 9pm.

She was not wearing a seatbelt and died from her injuries although police were not yet able to say if a seat belt would have saved her life.
