The owner of a cat shot in the head and side by a dart says she fears for the safety of her other pets.
Featherston woman Jeniah Peterson said she discovered two 10cm bamboo darts sticking into her 2-year-old part-Siamese cat Spooky yesterday morning.
Ms Peterson managed to pull out one that was stuck in the cat's side, but the other dart had gone through its nose and into its skull.
When Ms Peterson tried to pull it out it stuck, with the cat running out the door.
The cat hasn't been seen since and Ms Peterson fears that it may come to grief without veterinary attention.
"She was pretty scared and she freaked out when I tried to pull the dart out.
"The door was open just a little and she's run out the door."
Ms Peterson, who lives near a reserve on Woodward St, said she took the dart to a Featherston veterinary clinic, and was alarmed when they told her it may have been poisoned.
She reported the incident to Featherston police and said she had no idea why anyone would want to injure her cat.
Ms Peterson said she was now worried about the safety of her other pets.
"It's got to stop. I've got three other cats and two dogs and I don't want it to happen [to them]."
