Dargaville, Baylys Beach residents asked to conserve water because of leak

Dargaville and Baylys Beach residents are being asked to conserve water because of a “significant leak” on a line in the district.

In a post on its Facebook page, Kaipara District Council said there was a significant water leak on the raw water line at Parore West Rd.

“Our contractors are working on it right now – they have the parts and are repairing it as we speak.

“Because the leak is on the raw water line, it means we do not have any water going into our treatment plant at Hokianga Rd for treating.”

The post said Dargaville and Baylys Beach should conserve water until further notice.

“We had built up the levels in the treatment plant reservoirs nicely (it holds around two days’ worth of water for the town, depending on demand), and we were at 80% in the reservoirs this morning.

“However, as a result of this leak and high consumption, we have dropped to around 50% over the course of today.”

The council highlighted consumption was about 120cu m per hour at the moment.

It said 1% of its reservoir was equal to 52cu m.
