Dannevirke Viking sculpture going ahead

The promoters of a giant Viking sculpture in Dannevirke say they are going ahead with the controversial 10m project.

Dannevirke Promotions and Development Society president Malcolm Peffers said it was now only a matter of finding a site.

Sculptor Denis Hall, who also made Te Kuiti's giant shearer, would create the Viking.

The society was earlier refused permission to put the Viking in the Dannevirke Domain after a community board survey of 4000 residents drew 1100 responses, with only about 300 in favour.
