Woman charged after allegedly attacking Auckland bus driver on Queen St who refused to let her on

A young woman has been charged after attacking an Auckland bus driver who refused to pick her up, chasing it down before forcing her way on board.

Area Commander Inspector Grae Anderson said police were called to Queen St on Monday night responding to an assault on a bus driver.

“At about 9.40pm, the driver passed a woman reportedly acting unusually towards the driver while she was on her route.”

The woman chased down the bus and forced her way on board before allegedly assaulting the driver, he said.

She then left the bus before police were contacted, and an ambulance was called for the injured driver.

“Units arriving on scene noticed a woman matching the description of the offender standing by Vulcan Lane,” Anderson said.

“On seeing our staff, she ran off but was quickly chased down and arrested.”

Anderson said the 20-year-old had been charged with injuring with intent to injure and will appear in the Auckland District Court today.

“Being subjected to violence in your workplace is unacceptable, and we will continue to hold offenders accountable,” Anderson said.
