Taranaki attack: Police searching for male suspect after serious assault in King Edward Park

A person is in hospital after a serious assault at a park in Taranaki’s Stratford.

The attack happened around 6pm in King Edward Park while a person was out on a walk.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paula Drewery said an investigation has been launched.

“The victim was walking through the entrance near the old Maryann Residential Care Hospital when they were assaulted by a male.

“They suffered injuries that require hospital treatment.”

Police believe a woman walking her dog in the area at the time may be of help.

“Of particular interest is a woman walking a schnauzer-type dog in the same area of the park at the time.

“Police believe that her recollections may be of help.”

People who were in the area at the time between 5pm and 10pm and have any information or have CCTV that looks into the park are being asked to call 105.
