Police spike fleeing car on Remutaka Hill after alleged Masterton meat theft

Two people are in custody after a fleeing vehicle was spiked after an alleged meat theft.

Police said they were alerted about 2.30pm to a report of shoplifting in Masterton, where a bag of meat was allegedly stolen.

A vehicle linked to the incident was seen shortly after, but fled when police tried to stop it.

The vehicle was spiked about 3.15pm on SH2 / Remutaka Hill Road.

Two people were taken into custody.

Last year, three people were arrested in Wellington after being stopped by police with a car full of allegedly shoplifted meat.

About $1000 worth of meat was in the vehicle and an 18-year-old Lower Hutt male and two young people were arrested.

All three were charged with shoplifting offences and appeared in Wellington Youth Court.
