Man stabbed in group fight on Auckland’s Ponsonby Rd – bar owner

A bar owner says he called police when he saw a man severely injured from a stabbing after a group fight in Auckland’s Ponsonby Rd.

Win-Win Bar owner Bradley, who did not want his last name used, said he was outside his venue when the man walked by with stab wounds after an altercation outside another bar.

The injured man had a large gash on his left forearm, with bone visible, and a gash on his neck, Bradley told the Herald.

Police then began to tape off the area outside of Win-Win and The Whiskey bar, he said.

The injured man was “calm and collected” and showed no signs of panic, Bradley said.

“He told the people around him he was fine and he just wanted to go home.”

Bradley said he called the police, who arrived quickly and gave the injured man first aid before driving him away.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said the injured person was transported in a police vehicle to an ambulance, which was waiting at a safe point.

Police would not comment on the details of Bradley’s account when questioned by the Herald.

Police said earlier they were called about 3.10am on Saturday after a group of people were involved in an altercation.

“One person sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital.”

A St John spokeswoman earlier said an ambulance, a rapid response unit and a manager were sent to the incident.

“Our crews assessed and treated one patient who was transported to Auckland City Hospital in a serious condition.”

Inquiries into what occurred are continuing, the police spokeswoman said.
