Crashes spark traffic woes in North Island

Traffic is backing up after a crash blocked two lanes on the Northern Motorway in Auckland.

A police spokeswoman said they got the call at 7.48am and inital reports are that two cars and a truck were involved.

The crash blocked the fast and second lane. The spokeswoman said police had finished working in the area and hopefully traffic would start dispersing soon.

A separate crash in Wellington is also causing delays.

The crash near the entrance to the city's Terrace Tunnel has caused traffic to become backed up.

NZTA said the crash happened after 7.30am on SH1 and was blocking the southbound left lane, just prior to the tunnel .

A police spokesperson said the crash has now been cleared but NZTA is warning motorists to expect delays, while the congestion eases.
